The Gargano coastline between Mattinata and Vieste is spotted with several marine grottoes where the calcareous rock is fractured and has been eroded by the sea and the wind for centuries. Each grotto is unique as testified by the peculiar numerous names given to them: the bell, the bottomless grotto, the two-eyed grotto, the tomato, smuggler’s grotto, the emerald, the big bell. |
